OBLIVION - SAT 20th SEPTEMBER

Arrived at The Showbar at about 9.30pm to find there were already over 100 people in there, which was nice to see.

First up on the decks was DJ Tru dishing up a mix of classic drum + bass which seemed to go down well, accompanied by Oblivion resident MC Double L who always gets the crowd moving.

10pm saw DJ X-Cite step up to the turntables, playing one of his famous hard trance sets. By this time there were 2-300 people in the building, and MC Marley and X-Cite really did the business getting almost everyone warmed up and on the dance floor.

First special guest DJ for the night was DJ Sy who came on at 11pm, accompanied again by MC Marley and MC Ninja who arrived at about this time. Sy played a combination of new and old hardcore, and classic jungle, which was rather a nice twist and really got the crowd going wild.

By midnight the club was pretty much full and it was time for The Ratpack to grace the stage. This seemed to be who everyone came to see as the already packed dancefloor exploded.

As expected The Ratpack went down a treat performing a combination of classic old skool anthems and "nu skool," including their new remix of "Sweet Harmony" which everyone seemed to love. Lipmaster Mark and Everson Allen continued to entertain the Oblivion party goers until it was time for Jedi + Nexus to play at 1am.

Alongside Destiny resident MC Whitelines Jedi & Nexus did a mix of classic happy hardcore for 45 minutes, which always goes down a treat in this part of the country. 1.45am saw a change from the norm as the crowd turned round to whitness the Imperial Forces live P.A. which took place on the stage opposite the DJ booth. The live show combined both trance and hardcore, with the delightful vocals of Kristy. The P.A. was a very nice touch which definately added something extra to the night, and everyone enjoyed it.

Finally 2.15am saw DJ D-Lyte step up to take the Oblivion ravers through til the end, playing his usual hard and fast style of hardcore anthems combined with some top scratching. I'd like to think this went down well and it genuinely seemed the the 300ish people that stayed right til the end where sad to see the night come to a close.

Overall it was a truely great night, and was a breath of fresh air to see so many different styles work on one dancefloor, the way it used to be. Even after just 4 months Oblivion seems to be going from strength to strength, and I'll definately be at the next one to help this event become as huge as it deserves to be.
