| HARDCORE REVIVAL - SAT 7th SEPTEMBER | |
|
Even before the event, I was quite excited about this rave. The Hardcore Revival team were onto their seventh event, so they must've been doing something right. The flyer looked promising with the likes of Flashback, Jacknife and Lukozade alongside Raindance up 'n' coming Danny C and residents. After a two hour drive (I didn't think of looking at a map before I went), I managed to park up, and after a five minute walk found the venue. You could hear the amens from the club long before I saw it, so it was looking positive. A fairly thorough search from a grumpy security man (no surprises there) later and I was inside. There was no hassle from security inside the venue, and I didn't see any trouble during the night, which is always a bonus. After a quick chat with the promoter and Danny C, I was inside and straight away greeted with a shout from the MC Strict who was hosting alongside Flashback. The place itself was a nice layout with a big, bassy system. Caught the last 15 minutes of Flashback's set, but it was a nice dark style, and went down well with the people were starting to fill up the venue. Next up was Little Lee and Danny B who played a fantastic set! The started to pack out by now, and there was a nice friendly vibe inside. Once again a nice dark set, with the occasional big tune hit the spot. Its always good to hear the lesser known tunes, but for people who aren't into the music as much, it is nice to hear tracks like Sub Dub and Living in Darkness. |

By now it was time for the crowds favourite, Danny C. I had heard about his sets from Raindance, and the crowd were certainly looking forward to him. Slowing things down from the last set, he opened with the criminally underplayed Android ep, and everyone went crazy! The dance floor was rammed solid with people, and Danny C then proceeded to drop a nu skool mix of We are IE which I hadn't heard before. Next came in 'What evil lurks' and the crowd showed no sign of stopping. The tempo started to pick up now, and Tales from the Darkside bought the rewind, gave everyone a chance to catch breath. Danny C played a perfect mix of the odd anthem and the lesser known gems, and once or twice I even saw Flashback asking for tune IDs. Although a tough act to follow, Jacknife looked more than happy to step up next. Speeding up the tempo again, he opened with some real darkcore, which kept the crowd going. Unfortunately, tiredness got the better of me by this time, and I had to sit down and catch my breath. At the back of the club was a nice comfortable seated area, which was perfect to come and relax in for a bit. A bit of obligatory chatting with strangers later, and it seemed that everyone was enjoying the night as much as me. Most of the people I spoke to were from the local area, but a few, like me, had come quite a distance, showing that Hardcore Revival's reputation was growing. One of the best aspects of the night was the lack of MCs. The MCs that were there performed more of a host role, hyping up the crowd and generally letting the music do the talking. During the night I don't think I heard a single tune played twice, which is always a bonus. Its always good when promoters take the time to sort out sets with their DJs so you don't hear the same tunes all night. Overall, the night was extremely enjoyable. The sound was perfect for the occasion, the crowd were all friendly, as were the promoters who took their time to chat to everyone after their sets. I was a bit worried before the event, that it could end up being a night of jungle and hearing Champion Sound 5 times, but I was delighted to be proved wrong. The whole night had an underground feel to it that I haven't felt since Raindance. I'm definitely going to make the journey for the next one! Peter (aka DJ Genocide) |
